100 years later....

100 years later... I finally updated my blog!

You may now exhale, those of you that have been holding your breath waiting for me to update my blog. Well, that sentence may not be necessary for the simple fact that if you had, in fact, been holding your breath you would... be dead by now.

Brace yourself. This is going to be a bit of a long blog.

To sum up a year in one blog... is surprisingly easy!

Not much has been going on. Work. Home. Work. Home.

We did find this hike.

"Ladder Canyon"

We.. Explored the Mojave a little bit more:

We also.. Made Emma a "Unicorn Dog"

Made Daisy a "Unicorn Dog". Because it's ironic.

Hung out by the pool. sigh*
Made Daisy work for it :)

Worked A LOT of Event's and enjoyed a few.
 TOOK VACATION of course.
Had a giant Fire!
And a very beautiful red moon.
I did meet an Ostrich, which was.. pretty cool!
Dyed my hair blonde! Thank you Rose!
Enjoyed San Diego

Found the BEST DOG BEACH EVER!

Went to EskDale!!
AND of course a visit from Rosaleen and Audrey (Somehow I didn't get apicture of Rose :( :(
And that's it! I'm all caught up. *whew*

I hope everyone's summer has been wonderful.  Hard to believe it is almost over.

"Cow Tipping" and the people who believe it's possible

We had two possibilities for our writing challenge this week and I am taking the easy way out and going with a rant.  It may be a possibility that I have failed to do this challenge in a timely fashion because it is so hard to pick which subject to rant about.  Let's face it - ranting, raving, and well... sheer lunacy sometimes seem to be part of my nature and well, my favorite part of the day.  Of course I jest, I am quite literally perfect and do not suffer from lunacy of any kind.

The subject I have decided to rant about today is "Cow Tipping" and the people that believe that it's possible.

I have had the subject of "Cow Tipping" brought up to me quite often in my life.  As soon as someone learns that you are from "the country" the first thing they want to know is, "did YOU enjoy Cow Tipping as a child?"  So often have I had this argument about simply tipping a cow over that I often startle the most current questioner by flying into a sudden fit of outrage and storming off before the question is finished.

If you are not familiar with "Cow Tipping" I will give you a brief description.

It is widely believed that when you are in the farm lands (with nothing else better to do) you may sneak upon a cow in the dead of night.  And whilst this poor creature sleeps, standing on her feet, you may let your plan unfold.  With excitement and glee (and much to the cow's surprise) you my tip her over.  Boo-ya and Holy Cow!

Let me clear.  I do not believe in "Cow Tipping.  This meaning that I don't really think one person can sneak up on a cow while they sleep and tip it over.  I have many times walked through the Dairy in the middle of the night and saw many sleeping cows laying on the ground (this is a common sight as cows sleep on the ground).  I have also tried many times to shove a cow in a direction I would like them to go with no positive results.  Even with a running start to take that cow down, I am certain I would be the one finding themselves tipped.

I'm not so sure why I take this "Cow Tipping" so personally but apparently I do. It is the surest way to get a quick rise out of me in conversation.  So listen, it would take some serious planning, friends and possibly some equipment to really go "Cow Tipping".

To be Challenged

I have decided to do another photo challenge (to keep me on my toes). Challenges are good for me, apparently I need an assignment to continually do something I love. This photo challenge is in weeks rather than days so I have absolutely no excuse to not get it done.

Our first week is Flowers & Fruit

Because it is 117 degrees our flowers and fruits are slightly wilted and rotting. This is how I look and feel myself after spending any time outside.

The (below) photo is so strange. It looks like there is a little alien living in the lemon. egads!

Week Two: Leaves and Water

After staring at wilted and rotting things lets get back to something a little more beautiful! Oh water, how you make everything better. I threw leaves and flowers in the pool and photographed them. I didn't place them at all and I thought it was interesting how they would all seem to find each other and form little groups.

This photo (below) was so neat to me because this looks like such a constructed pattern and they did this on their own.

I will also be doing a writing challenge with Sharon (if any one else want's to you should to!!) I know school has started for most of you so I hope everyone's school year is a great one. I will post the writing challenge next time. Have a great week everyone!

Family

It's been a great summer so far! My family came to visit for the weekend which was wonderful. I unfortunately was sick the whole time but it was fantastic having them here. The house felt very empty afterwards. I know I post a lot of pool pictures, however, that's about all you can do in this heat.

I'm pretty sure the pool has the power to turn you into a little kid again.

I was very glad my mom made it down, that was a great surprise! I am really enjoying Palm Springs but I do get a little homesick now and then. Hope everyone has been having a great Summer!!

July 2012

Audrey and I made our way to Venice Beach a couple of weekends ago. A great way to spend a weekend and it was so great to spend some time with Audrey!

With temperatures well over the hundreds Tom and I headed up the mountains to find a great hike and a slightly cooler day. Part of the Pacific Trail is about 45 minutes away and is a very lovely hike.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!!!

Rose and Alex came to visit Tom and I before they headed out to EskDale and it was a lot of fun! We spent the day hanging out in the pool, well Rose and Alex did and got the sunburns to prove it. Alex and Rose are much braver than me with the diving, back flip, etc. :) I did manage to do one back flip and I'm sure it was probably my first and last one.

It was a lot of fun to have them here and hopefully since the drive to Phoenix is only 5 hrs there might be more visits :).

In other news I was very fortunate to find a job at the Palm Springs Art Museum. It has been working out well and I think I will like working there. One of the best parts of the job is that Tom and I have the same work schedule so we are both home at the same time and have weekends off together so we will still be able to do fun things together! Like go to Santa Barbara, which I want to visit really bad. (PSYCH!!..... even though the show is actually filmed in Vancouver)

Hope everyone is having a fantastic 4th of July! I am sad to miss the program in EskDale.. and the food. :(

Highlights from my first week.

First week in Palm Springs down. This weather is definitely not for pansies! Today's expected temperature is 106. However being able to counteract it with a pool has been essential. We find ourselves saying, "Oh it's only 98 outside... too cold for swimming!"  On one hand it has been nice having this time off to just kind of relax yet, on the other hand the "relax" is covered in anxiety and stress knowing I'm currently unemployed.

I have loved this whole ombre nail look that is ever so trendy these day's and attempted it myself! Not exactly nailing it but kind of pretty eh?

Palm Springs just installed this giant statue of Marilyn Monroe. It is perfect for describing Palm Springs. Completely old Hollywood.

To escape the heat Tom and I drove up the mountain to this little town called Idyilwild. It is only about a 40 minute drive and the temperature is about 30 degrees less than Palm Springs. We ate an incredibly overpriced lunch and went for a hike around Himit Lake which was just beautiful.

One of my favorite things about this house is the back patio. I love eating outdoors and we have been taking advantage of the outdoor table.

And now for another week - I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
